Many restaurants around the world are slowly opening up again, but they still have to ensure customers stay a safe distance apart. Last week, we reported on a café in Germany using pool noodles on hats, but this isn’t the only German establishment to adopt novelty headwear as a tool to help curb the spread of COVID-19. The nation’s Burger King branches recently introduced giant “social distancing crowns,” forcing customers to stand 6 feet apart.
You might remember Burger King’s cardboard crowns from your childhood, but the fast food chain has updated the classic design to a jumbo size headpiece that looks more like a sombrero than a crown. Each Burger King customer receives a folded, flat version of the hat which they then have to build themselves. “We wanted to reinforce the rules of high safety and hygiene standards that the BK restaurants are following,” a Burger King representative states. “The do-it-yourself social-distance crown was a fun and playful way to remind our guests to practice social distancing while they are enjoying food in the restaurants.”
This isn’t the only idea Burger King is trying. In Italy, the food chain is selling a “social distancing whopper”—a burger that has three times the amount of raw onions, so that it gives people bad breath and therefore keeps others away. It’s a stomach-turning approach, but also kind of genius!
