Blogging isn’t known to be a fast track to earning millions, but for what it’s worth, WordPress bloggers now have the opportunity to offer subscriptions to their readers so that they can earn an income from their blogs.

This option is available for those who run a website using WordPress.com or who run the free blog software on their own server – provided that site uses the Jetpack WordPress plugin.

WordPress has partnered with Internet payment processor Stripe to offer the subscription service called Recurring Payments. Bloggers need to set up a user account with Stripe and can then insert subscription buttons into their blog so that readers can make payments.

Bloggers can customise the details of the recurring payment, for example in terms of amounts, payment frequencies and different currencies.

WordPress says it earns between two and eight per cent commission on every subscription, while Stripe takes 2.9% and US$0.30 (RM1.25) for each payment made to the Stripe account. – dpa
